Topic: The definitive guide to travelling with film

Yesterday I was clearing out some old magazines when I found this article in the October 1999 issue of Popular Photography.
In it, they put film repeatedly through a luggage x-ray machine to show the effect on film. They used some Kodak Gold 200 for the experiment.
Here are the scans. If the person who owns this article complains, I will remove it upon request.

Interesting. My understanding was that if they encounter a lead shield for film, they can simply turn up the power and see through.  I dont encounter any travel issues....but I only go to the USA, Japan, and Hong Kong from Canada

And don't forget that this was 1999...

My guess is that now with the laws in place, they can do anything they want to your film, so the best thing is to just bring it onboard.

This is describing the super heavy duty X rays that they used on checked luggage, right? I'd like to see a test using the X ray machines that they use for hand luggage. In fact, I want to try it myself! But I'd probably have to get up to a dozen passes before it becomes noticeable. Anyone have a friend in the TSA?
