That's great, thanks for sharing Kai-san. I assume they are making this film and not just re-branding, they do say it's unique if Google is translating this properly.

I really think it's unique. Oriental-Seagull makes some excellent photo papers, so I don't think they would have settled for some cheap emulsion for their film.
Too bad they're so hard to find around here...

It would be nice if the guys at Japan Exposures picked it up, but shipping films from Japan would not exactly make them cheap. It would be nice to test them out though.

The description says "Ortho Panchromatic". Not sure what that means. It would be cool if a Filmwaster who occasionally finds themselves in Asia (Bryan) would pick up a few rolls and 'distribute' to a few other N. Americans. Then we could decide whether or not to raise the cry for a distributor in the western hemisphere (maybe FPP could get something going?).

I would be happy to James but I don't currently have any trips planned for that part of the world. If something comes up I'll let you know. I would be surprised if it didn't make it's way to the U.S. one way or another, maybe eBay.

Yeah, I read that this morning. If it's just rebranded Kentmere, I'm a bit disappointed.
Lets not forget that Oriental has had sponsored printers for years... and all of them excellent. Years ago, they sent me a small publication of printing tips from one of the old zone system masters...

Everyday madness in a mad world. Btw, Kentmere films aren't sold in Germany anymore, but the clones and bothers are alive and the family seems to grow.

Well, on reflection, if Ilford has found a route to market which helps them sell more film and keep production viable, long term, then we should really be applauding and supporting them.

I wanted to try the Washi film, but I haven't seen anything that would justify the $15/roll price tag. In fact I'm not sure there could be a justification for that price (for me). I just don't spend that kind of money on 120 film.

It's a true ortho emulsion on semi-transparent japanese washi-paper. should be developed under red darkroom light by sight in paper developer. Speed about 25 ASA. You may read the linked pdf data sheet in english. The pictures show the paper structure. And besides the displayed pictures I've seen some other really special ones by real users. To me the price appears to be reasonable for a handmade product.

The Washi film sounds interesting, but I was put off by the thought that it'd be a git to put on a spiral?
If you have to develop it in a darkroom that's out for me, alas.

Going back to the original topic, it's a shame it's not a brand new film, but on the other hand if it's a new income stream for Harman/Ilford then it's a good thing.

Washi paper is nice, especially for the larger formats. On the smaller film, the paper structure tends to be overwhelming.

I wonder if the hazle with the 4x5" and backing paper/-filmsheat is worth the hazle and whether either format will bring out an effect that differ from what you can do with baking paper in contact with your photografic paper and orthofilm?

Where can this film be found in Japan? I'd like to get at least one canister for my collection, maybe a 3-pack. I have coworkers that come from Japan frequently and they'd probably be willing to bring some over for me.

Depends on which city they go to.
I know Tokyo camera style made a nice map of the best shops in the shinjuku district.

Looks like Yodobashi camera normally stocks it, so that makes it easy.

edit: Ordered 3 rolls of each and it shipped today. He should have it by today or tomorrow, but I have to wait for him to arrive in the US at the end of the month.
