A forum operation question
« on: February 04, 2016, 09:17:47 PM »
There's probably a really obvious answer to this but I'll ask anyway.

I used to get an email when someone posted on a thread that I'd commented on and now all-of-a-sudden I don't. I have the little 'Notify me of replies' box ticked - am I missing something?  ??? Does it work for you?

I get sort of sporadic notifications if someone quotes me in a thread, but not every time there is a reply. I think that is a Tapatalk thing though. I have notifications turned off though since I am compulsively checking this site through the day anyway.

I simply don't use notifications anywhere except on forums where I don't often go like tech support places.

Yes, that used to work at one point Nigel. It may just be that the email server isn't configured properly anymore? Alternatively the server is on some spam blacklist so the emails never reach their destination. Or, or, or. Email is notoriously difficult these days.

Has anybody else noticed the favicon has disappeared, or is it maybe a Chrome thing?

Oh, ok. Thanks Urban. At least it's not me having done something stupid.

I've never seen the favicon in Chrome since I've been registered. And I just noticed it disappeared in FF as well  :o Maybe it was cached at a different location? Or maybe the forum "problems" of late have changed some default directories?

Well, I know that the site was moved to a new server last weekend, so that might have something to do with it.
I don't know how the internals work on clusters like that but I feel that everything might not be properly linked yet.

Actually it stopped working a while ago. So the latest forum move may not be related.

While we're on this topic: Does anybody else have problems attaching images to a post using Tapatalk? I always get a 500 error when I try. That used to work at some point as well.

A friend of mine has been trying to join the group for several days but the process doesn't complete.  Could that be related to the server move?

I know the site does some geo-IP blocking to minimize spam...
Maybe contacting Ed or Leon directly would help.

I PM'ed Ed but no reply yet.  This guy is in Quebec--so probably not blocked!
