Santa 2015
« on: December 25, 2015, 08:42:21 PM »
Like every year, I'm just wondering if Santa was good for you this year?

For me, it was a Holga (which I bought a while back), a digital angle finder (I had you sweating there didn't I ;) ) and a few books.

A book on a local TV celebrity who does some pretty neat street photography when he's abroad (the only way he can go unnoticed)... his texts are hilarious and his pictures are pretty good. Here's a sample of his book https://www.entrepotnumerique.com/o/141/p/9782897053628?l=fr&r=http://editions.lapresse.ca

Another one on mid-century advertising.
One on cell phone photography (gasp)
one on portraits of comedy greats including Steve Martin and Mel Brooks...
One on everything from the 70's.... the decade that style definitely forgot!
And finally one on 1969...

So, what about you?

I've been a lucky lad, this festive season:

- 10x35mm 36exp rolls of Ilford XP2 Super
- Cartier-Bresson's "The Decisive Moment" book
- Ansel Adams' 2016 calendar
- a mug in the shape of a Canon 28-105mm f4 lens
- a nice bottle of port and some beautiful Stichelton cheese

Hope we've all received nice things and, more importantly, spent some quality time with family / friends.

I got an Isolette bellows in burgundy purchased from our own Sandeha and 50 sheets of Arista Ortho Litho 4x5. A good year indeed!

The only camera related gift I received was a camera shaped cookie cutter. However I did share the filmwasting by giving my friends an Ilford HP5+ disposable camera each.

Got me some 120 film, a much-needed new tripod, Andreas Feininger's New York in the 1940s, some inkjet photo paper (for a soon-to-be-acquired printer), and a very cool TLR-shaped pencil sharpener for the box of Blackwing 602 pencils I got. (Until you have used a quality pencil, you have not lived a full, rich life. Limr understands.)

Oh, and an all-important bottle of Laphroig. I do love me some good scotch.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Some fantastic books for me:
Michael Kenna: Images of the seventh day
Mitch Debrowner: Storms (digital, but also good)
Nick Brandt: On this Earth, a Shadow falls

A bottle of scotch and a cook book on hot sauces. And I guess the various bits and pieces for the darkroom from here (Sandeha, Harvey, Andrej) could be considered Christmas presents too. :)

Nothing photography related. A Gore Tex shell jacket for skiing, and two wrist watches. My wife misplaced the first one, and found it only after purchasing the second. Lucky me.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the Magnum Contacts book. I know I'm a bit late to the party, but it's a very fine thing.

My New 55 film from the Kickstarter showed up for Christmas.  I also treated myself to a Mamiya 65mm lens for my C3.

Nothing photo related under the tree this year, but I gave away an assorted pacage of film to my youngest son. I consider that a good investment! But I did get some films on DVD (yes, they still exist).

Of photo related stuff I got a few oak picture frames from Moebe and cash to do a fungus fix + cla on my Rigid Summicron 50mm.
Other nice stuff that was unwrapped came in the shape of board games (they beat the telly hands down, but don´t go well with to much wine) a home knitted jumpers and a pair of really nice locally made moccasins I have lusted after for ages.
On my way home I stopped by a gent who sold me a Pentax 67 which broke down the day after. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose and all that - hope you all have had a good time!  :)
