Perast is a charming little town on the shores of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. Once a prosperous village popular with merchant navy officers, Perast is most famous for it's chapel dedicated to seamen which is to be found in the middle of the bay. Legend has it that two fishermen found a portrait of the Virgin Mary on a rock in the bay and the village. Local seamen built the chapel on the same rock over a period of centuries and still honour this feat by rowing out to the island once a year and throwing rocks into the sea.
