Topic: X-ray, first result

I always wanted to try xray film, so some time ago i bought a box of 18x24 Fuji AD-M, x-ray film, a green sensitive mammography film. I had a some spare 9x12 film holders, so i cut the 18x24 sheet into 4 pieces for a first test. yesterday i took the first image and i'm quite happy with the result.

Shot with a Crown Graphic and a 6.8/90mm Angulon,
iso 100, developed in Rodinal 1+120, 18°C and 8min. (approx.)
scanned and slightly adjusted in Lightroom.

Yeah, the emulsion (both sides) is really thin and dev times are crazy short. I generally do mine in 1:100 x 4.5min. I love the price, I hate cutting it in the dark (haven't had good luck with safe lights).

This shot looks great. I like the look of that lens on the large format.

How does that work? Being exposed to x-ray film like that can´t be healthy?
Probably worse than those old non auto focus radioactive lenses!

Looks good! How did you manage developing it without scratching the emulsion? All of my attempts, no matter how gentle I tried to be during developing (tray method), ended up with nasty scratches on the neg.

because it's just a test i was not very careful. i developed the film in a Jobo tank with a 4x5/9x12 spool. the tank (filled with 1,2 l developer to cover the spool) stayed open and every 30 sec. the spool was lifted a few times. that's all.

That sounds correct, I develop my xray negs 6 minutes in 1+100 Rodinal.

Volker, how do you develop them to avoid scratches - that is something that worries me - after many tweaks my method still isn't scratch-proof.

EDIT - I see you already mention the developing method. Sounds good. Pity there ain't no spools for 18x24, not to say 18x43...

That's quite a nice result, Volker. Out of curiosity: Where was this taken? It reminds me of Molkenkur.

@andrej: Maybe you can find a jobo filmdrum (3025), not a jobodrum. They are cheaper. The 3025 can handle up to  two 8x10.

Thanks, Volker, I wasn't aware of that type of drums, sounds quite promising. But maybe I'll start right away with the 3063
