As I was picking up some film yesterday, I came upon the display of the cute little instax minis and thinking if using my daughters birthday as an excuse for bringing some instant into out house ;-)

Their is an instax 210 wide for sale for a good price with lots of film. What do you instax-lovers think about the mini vs the 210? I have read some reviews saying the 210 IQ is not as good (bad low light and lower contrast), and that some of the charm of the mknitor is lost. But then again nice big images.

As this would be a last minute bonus present, quick advice is appreciated ;-)

I see a lot of girls in the city with instax minis. Whether they are buying because they prefer the resolution of the lens over the larger variant or because instant is cool and trendy I'm not exactly sure. But they do seem to enjoy shooting with them.

The 210 just seems huge, I have doubts about the portability of it from an average user's perspective.

Once she gets hooked on instant just don't tell her about impossible or it will put you out of house and home!

Haha. Ya those 210s are beasts. As you know Terra rocks a Pentax k1000 (and looks marvelous doing it) so you know she is no average gal! But she still does have a sense of fashion haha and the mini seems like it is half the size.

Id go for the mini, it sounds like a great gift. Also since she knows how film works she will savour every single frame rather than blow through a pack like its instagram or something

Haha, that is really evil appealing to my OCD needs for having backup (and backup-backup etc) cameras! ;-p

I think i might grab a mini. The main draw for the wide was that someone local was selling a cache of the film for a reasonable price ($60 can for 80 shots), but as the film is generally more expensive, that savings could disappear. Additionally I wonder if the 210 wide film will be around for long given the new camera that is coming out.

I'd go for the mini too.
There is the 80 and the 70. The 70 doesn't have a meter in it so I'd steer away from it.
On the other hand, the 80 is very well designed, has a nice meter in it and has even more possibilities than the instax wide.
If I had to get a new one, I'd go for the mini. Besides, film for it is cheaper ;)

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Case closed. I am gonna pick up a mini. Mike and TinTin I don't think I will get a backup one, but I might buy a spare pack of film for dear old dad to use  ;)

That's Ok. I do have an extra K1000 that you, sorry I mean she, can have as a back up.
