Topic: Cameras and old mens trousers...what do they have in common?

I just thought id post this up as its something ive found really useful with my plastic cameras, especially as most of them come from charity shops where they dont come with a strap. My technique is to grab an old pair of braces for 2 quid (the more ludicrous the pattern the better!) separate the 2 parts, attatch to the camera and wahey you have yourself 2 fully resizable camera straps!

has anyone else tried this? or do you have any other nifty tricks?

Well, I did make me an expensive R-strap (the type that holds the camera by the tripod socket) using a dog leash and a screw-eye... it's been featured in a podcast and as Contraption 6 on the site.

thanks sapata! the full article is on my blog if your interested, id recommend markets or vintage shops for the braces, often they have a big bucket of braces with totally ridiculous patterns! Try to get yourself a pair of
nice thick and not too spring ones

Cool idea tho the sproinngyness of the braces would peturb me as a camera strap. Isn't it annoying?

surprisingly not, if you get a nice thick pair (as in depth not width), and use them with reasonably lightweight cameras they work brilliantly, the slight springyness actually makes them more comfortable!

by the look of the size of those canadians braces, you could probably hold up a huge camera obscura!
