Koh-tao with my little family
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:21:53 PM »
Couple of weeks ago I went with Elena and little Alma to Koh-tao, a small island in Thailand. We enrolled in an Apnea course that lasted for 5 days. I brought with me the POlaroid 195 and the Rollieflex 2.8gx. Optimistically I brought with me several polaroid packs and 120 black and white and color rolls. At the end I shot a handful of images... family trips and photography do not mix well, at least this is the case of my experience so far... on one side I feel not entirely OK telling my family to wait for me because I saw something interesting, on the other hand, and perhaps the main reason for not shooting so much, is my state of mind which is not entirely into photography, hence I lack the punch to ask people to ¨pose¨for me...  :'(  well, some family snapshots, and two sleepies   ::) one in the plane (neighbour from the rear file) and one in the subway.

You are right. Family vacations and photography really doesn't mix well. But you got some beautiful shots anyway!

Carlos, I'll be the second person to confirm your experiences of family holidays (with young children) and photography not mixing well, but like Urban said, you did get some gorgeous shots. The one of Elena and Alma in the sea is beautiful as is the one with Alma and her friend colouring the book. Great stuff.

Thanks very much for sharing them here....and I hope you had a great holiday.

p.s. When we just had one child and she was small enough to fit in a pack on my back I was still able to take photos more or less unhindered. However, since that changed (around 6 years ago), my photo ops have been significantly reduced.

I hear you Ed.. now sweet little Demon is 3 years old. In some other occasions when travelling with the family I would wake up eeeearly in the morning (around 5.30-6.00am) and go shooting, but not this time  :'(  another great time is when both Alma and Elena are doing nap time, but then you are also short of sleep  :-X

Apnea as in sleep apnea? Hope the course was of some benefit.

As to pictures on family holidays. I agree, a bit difficult to find time to wander off. Don´t really feel like it either, seeing as when we go on holiday as a family, we do it to be together, more so than in our 9 to 5 hustle and bustle everyday life.

One day though, I hope to have interested the girls in photography, so they can join in.

Nice family Carlos.
