Minolta Auto Exposure Meter III
« on: September 26, 2013, 12:25:28 PM »
I'm looking at buying a Minolta Auto Exposure Meter III with Booster II.

I have no idea what a Booster II is so any guidance on that would be lovely. Also, does anybody have any experience with these meters, are they any good?

Thank you in advance :D

Aperture has one in their Museum Street shop:

I have the AutoMeter IVf and spot meter attachment (and really like them).  I suspect the "Booster" will be to "boost" the EV range / sensitivity. Might be wrong but I can't think of any other useful function for something with that name...

Yep, that's what the booster is. You use it in low light situations.

I just hope you can pick it up for cheap as I got a Sekonic Flashmate L-308S new from the store for around 250CAD$

Thanks folks. I'm not set on the Minolta, and might look at the Sekonic, it all comes down to price more than anything.

If you're looking at an electronic one, also check what mode it works in (aperture or shutter priority or either) as, if you work generally in one and the meter works in the other, it's a pain.

I usally give priority to apertures (even when working manually I tend to think apertures first). Like Paul, I have the IVf which is shutter priority (you set the shutter speed and it tells you what aperture to use). You can adjust the reading afterwards to what combination you want but I just find it annoying to have to do it every time. I also have a Gossen Variosix F which works in either mode but I don't have a spot attachment for it like I do the Minolta so rarely use it.
