Another year and another Photographica over and done with.

As per usual the event was well attended but IMHO seemed not as busy (which was nice!) as previous years?... It didn't take me long to spot the Ilford stand and managed to introduce myself to Steven Brierley who recognised me from the latest FW Video Podacast, fame! Had a long discussion regarding the concept and development of the new Obscura... and lots of exciting derivatives and additions in the pipeline too! I also managed to have a chat with the lovely ladies on the Silverprint stand regarding their move to new and bigger premises, I also found out that they are planning a return to opening on a Saturday! Yay!

Apart from a slight altercation with a MOG (apologies to Moiz for having to put up with me uttering few profanities!) it was a fairly relaxed affair and thought that there were some quality equipment on sale this year, was even tempted by a very nice Hassy SWC but my budget didn't stretch that far.

Great to catch up again with LD (Paul), Lara, Thil & the lovely lady who's name I always forget!, Dave, Miller, Sandeha, Moiz and Brian May (yes he was there!! and stood next to him at one point!).

During the last few minutes of this years visit I did succumb to a very nice Pentacon Six. It is the non TL version but as I tend to use a meter (even with a digital SLR!) it doesn't bother me. It also features the older Zeiss 'Zebra" lens. I've seen lots of beat up versions but this is MINT! There's not a mark on it and it came with the original box! Looking forward to test driving this camera  :)

Great find, Paul.  Somewhere on the web , if you don't already know it, there is an explanation of how to start off the film winding so as to avoid frame spacing and ratchet problems.

EDIT - Oh yes.  It's here ... http://www.pentaconsix.com/Loading.htm

I had one briefly years ago but took it back to the shop as it was a bit wrecked.

Now I'm quite impressed with all the great stuff you found!
For me, it was garage sale hopping instead. I did find a nice folding table top studio with two little halogen table top lights, the type with translucent sides. Got a great deal on it... it was still in its original box and still wrapped in plastic!

And by the way, did anyone think of getting me some stuff for my birthday while at the show?   ;)

When I got home I found my lightmeter sitting on the kitchen table.  How did that happen?  Anyway, guesswork left me underexposing ...

Paul and Lara prowling, or haggling.

Thil and Moiz engrossed in something photographic.

Time for lunch, obviously.

I'm oh os jealous of you guys! BTW, Paul, there's no difference between the TL and non-TL Pentacon Six (other than the name). You could in theory just by a metered prism for it and have a "TL", too. A great camera, but obviously they are all a bit old and so stuff may break. And yeah, you have to be careful with the winding. OTOH, by accident I managed to get 13 shots on a roll of 120 which isn't bad :)

Thanks for the update Urban. I know that I've not bought a camera in the same league as a Hasselblad but for a 30+ year old East German camera that has a decent lens, is virtually unused, that I didn't pay over the odds for, I'm willing to give it a go. What this does mean now though is I have to hunt down the legendary 50mm Flek to go with it! Anyone got one they don't need?  ;D

Sorry Paul, I'm keeping mine ;D (but I do have a unmetered prism that I don't need). Make sure you get a lens hood with it, I did get some serious flaring with mine one time. But it was bright sunlight in the snow so maybe it isn't that big a problem in normal conditions.

Miller got a bargain....don't believe it. That NEVER happens usually.

 :D :D

Glad it went well. Glad I missed Brian May. Sad I missed it for the first time in years, but Belarus was amazing.

Mmmm might be tempted?...

Let me know if you're interested. It will take a while until I get around to selling it on eBay so no rush (it also comes with a detachable cold shoe).

Almost 3 months after the event I got the film from that day processed... LD, Moiz and the chap sitting behind us in the pub.
