Workshops in SE UK
« on: March 24, 2013, 12:18:41 PM »
Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone here knew of any darkroom workshops in SE England, preferably in the London area.

I'm competent enough at exposing a picture and I'm capable of developing it (ie i can use the chems in the right order and use a stopwatch) but I still don't know how to tell whether my negs are actually overexposed or underdeveloped or, in fact, spot on.

Anyway, if anyone can point towards a friendly photographer that does workshops I think I'm need some learning!

Thanks all.

I'll do it for a pint :)

Seriously ... I'll happily run you through the task - I've done a few workshops before. I'm a short train ride from London (nr Canterbury). No charge, just a couple quid for chemicals.

Email me if you are interested.

Leon.

I went to one held at Double Negative (www.sebsussmann.co.uk). They have a studio and a darkroom. They also run wet plate courses (great fun). Well worth a look.

Good luck
David
(I posted this, not to do Leon out of a pint, but rather to stop everybody on here descending to Canterbury, beer in hand, to clog-up Leon's diary)

When I'm ready to start processing my own negatives again (hopefully very soon), I will take up Leon on his offer as:

(a) I trust Leon's judgement on the subjects of exposure / negatives
(b) I like Shepherd Neame beer  ::)
(c) I wanna see his new pooch.... :D

Leon, I fear you may have opened up the proverbial can of worms! :)

Zap, thanks for that link!

OK - I should start by saying I'm teetotal these days :)

I am seriously more than happy to do a how to on personal film speed test and dev time session if people want. I can only fit one other person in the darkroom, otherwise I'd be happy to make it a group thing. Also run through the benefits of tan & stain developers, and a session on split grade printing.

I don't really want to make hard cash, but a box of Ilford mgiv fb never goes amiss?

+Greg - what would your referral commission be? 2 sheets from every 100? ;)

If you have any room left Leon, I wouldn't mind getting some useful hints and tips in the darkroom arts!

Hi Irv

What kind of tuning were you thinking? Send me a message if you like.

Best

Leon.  Hows about you arrange a session at AG in brum?   sure you would get a good sign up and most importantly its quite close to where i live.
