help required.....Polaroid 4x5 back (pack film)
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:45:41 PM »
Hi,

Im after a Pola pack film back for 4x5 film..... i know these historically go for $$$$$$$$$  but if anyone has one going given the lack of instant 4x5 film....  I have about 10 boxes I want to use up.

The other, maybe easier option... I have a pack film back (terrible condition mind) but no darkslide for it.   If anyone has one spare they want to sell, or ideas as to how to get one made...  now would be the time to speak up.  Ill be forever in your debt ...

Maybe you could make a new slide from the ones on old Graflex filmpack adapters? These things are useless nowadays.

I may be completely wrong, but aren't the expensive 4x5 backs the ones that take the fuji 4x5 pack film, and in comparison the ones that take single sheets of polaroid film are more affordable?

there are 2 different ones for the pola film and for some reason one seems cheaper than the other...

but could be way off!

another idea, is half an old cold clip too thick to be fashioned into a darkslide for the type 100 back? should be about the right size?

or some of that really tough plastic used in packaging painted black perhaps?

OK, I just found my packfilm adapter for my Graflex.
The dark slide measures 87½mm wide x 155mm long. The end is curved for some unknown reason and the center is at 154mm. Thickness is about 2/100 inch.
I took the measurements from the bottom of the stiffener strip to the end.
The bottom 20mm is painted red as an indicator that you shouldn't pull out anymore or there will be a light leak.

I took the darkslide from the filmpack adapter I have.
It measures 107mm wide x 164mm long. Thickness 3/100 inch.

I checked the thickness of my Riteway film holders and it is the same thickness as the filmpack adapter's.

I tried putting  corner in my Polaroid holder and it is a tight fit, you can quickly see that the filmpack adapter's slide is made from a thicker material. It does go in but not without a hassle.

Since the 4x5 plate on the holder is held with screws, it would be possible to remove just a bit of material on its back to fit the new slide.

Very lucky find.
Sadly, we don't have MrCad in these parts...
