thanks for the link Francois - and for those who haven't watched this - make sure you select the HD version and view it full screen.  It is quite something!

That lens alone must have cost a ridiculous amount, let alone all the consumables etc.

WOW!

Wow.  Good on him.  My mind boggles as to how much he must spend on his silver though!  Thanks very much for posting that...although now my teeny tiny 4x5 tintypes seem more than inadequate ;-)

Ever since watching it, I've been obsessing over ways to do such large formats on the cheap. Something really hard since I want to avoid expensive silver based processes. Sadly, I don't think there is any easy way to avoid it.

I know this is an old thread, but.....

Ian has been here in Vancouver, Canada for about a month now and is about to leave. He was in town doing a few talks and a couple of workshops, that I sadly missed out on, as they filled up fast.

However for the past two weeks, while here he has been out and around town shooting. I spend a good part of one day driving around town looking for him and the truck but didn't find him. However, a couple of days later I did, and over the past week and a half I managed to go out 3 times to watch him shoot. I managed to get a look inside the truck and see a number of plates being made. They are stunning to see.

To top it all off he is a great guy (along with his crew of people working with him) and really easy to talk to. Happy to answer question, chat between shots and open to peoples opinion and thoughts. great guy!

If you get a chance to see him work you should.

Quite something, and to think we complain over the price rises on regular film, he burns $500 on every single shot
