First Shots with the Bronica
« on: December 18, 2012, 06:48:00 PM »
Now that I have managed to put a roll of film through the Bronica, I have got back the roll from the processors

Here is an example

Loving the sharpness of your example photo. Do you have any others I could look at?

Matt, for all three shown I used the Bronica Zenzanon 75mm F2.8. I only have one other at the moment, the 105mm F4.  :(
Still come the new year, I might invest in the 50mm F2.8 and a 150mm F4.

The 50mm f2.8 is a very nice lens, well worth it, I'd say.

Very nice Offertonhatter, I particularily like 'Candles'.  Also, the colours of Fuji pro 400 look just right to me, warm without being saturated.

Very surprised Terry. It is a big brute, and carrying it around the streets can work your arms. But the results! Oh the Results! I never realised how good MF was. I knew it was good, but not by this much. The images really do have a 3D rendition.
I am so looking forward to using it in the studio next week.  ;D

Really nice photos Iain. Hand held? The candles are my fave, so far.

If you think a Bronnie 645 is a lump, try a Mamiya RB67 or RZ67. If you want "the ultimate workout" a Fuji 680 would take some beating. Mmmm, maybe there's a market for photography fitness workouts based on the size and weight of your kit....."fnarr, fnarr, cluck, cluck" as Leon might say  :o ::)

All that said, the end results are definitely worth it. Although I'll be retaining a 35mm film rig, the majority of my stuff next year will be 6x6 or 6x7.

I got my first ETRS last summer, and have been shooting with it often.  I also have a Pentacon 6 and I find the Bronica easier to use.  I like the waist-level finder and the winding crank and generally find that I can shoot with it almost intuitively--it feels very natural.

If you think a Bronnie 645 is a lump, try a Mamiya RB67 or RZ67.

Every time i see an ETRS i stop and think they look so cute compared to my SQ-A haha.

But i have to agree the RB's and RZ's are much bigger still.

I Know, but compared to my 35mm and DSLR's and especially my LX-5 it is a big brute.

Still I would love an SQA or other 6x6 beast, even a Pentax 6x7 (mmmm Yummy!)
But the GX680, I think that might be a tad too much..... ;D

Still, as an introduction to the world of MF (ignoring my Rolleiflex that i did manage to get 6 shots out of before it stopped working and in need of a rebuild) the Bronny is a wonderful machine.
It really does make you think more with DOF control and light, whereas I come from a 35mm arena and used to the abilities. MF on the other hand makes you think even more about DOF, Barnacks rules, field of view and  others. And you know what? I am loving it!

That's true. Just ask Ed about his old Graflex RB!
If you want a big SLR, this has got to be the thing!

I've often thought about selling my Hasselblad and going for a Bronica, simply because the lenses are cheaper and I could afford more than one! I picked up an SQ something or 'nother in a used camera shop a few months ago and was quite surprised at how bulky it was. I still have my Blad at the moment, but ever so often the thought crosses my mind, because I'm still sitting on that single 80mm lens. Hopefully I'll be able to afford a 150mm for it soon.
