OT: Toycamera has finally gone down the drain!
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:12:44 PM »
I know it's not a common thing to do, but I think it should be said: Toycamera has finally fallen down the drain!
I was using AM Deadlink (a great little program) to do a cleanup in my bookmarks when I noticed that the old bookmark to the site was reported as 403 Access Forbidden. I thought it was just an error in the scanner (which sometimes happens), so I went there with Firefox and was greeted with some nice screens. like the following.

And here's the full description on Google Safebrowsing:
http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?client=Firefox&hl=en-US&site=http://toycamera.com/

Like Mr. Spock would say: Fascinating

That's a real shame.  It used to be a great forum.

A real shame. It's where Ed, Damion, Susan, Skorj and I met, and what led us to bring about FWrs.

Nic Nichols took over as webmaster didn't he? His Four Corners store and personal sites are still up and running. Maybe it's a temporary glitch. Mind you, I visited the forum only a few weeks ago, and it was quite dead & spam riddled.

Yeah, it was Nic that took over when Mike got tired of it. I had dropped-out of the forum a bit before it became a pay to use system.

It would really p*** me off if a service I paid for simply was closed without even putting a simple static page explaining things.
Error 403 is never an explanation for anything!

Reading through the stuff, it was probably either hacked, or one of the ads on the site contained malicious software. a lot of those ad bars do all kinds of stuff, like run flash or java programs to download software onto your computer.

"Of the 12 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 4 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-10-07, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-10-07."

From memory, they were running custom made software. It's not impossible that there were holes in the code and nobody wanted to pay to get them fixed.

Somehow, it feels like if the pub where you met your best buddies closed down.
Luckily, we have another pub to go to :)

It's sad to see this place going as it was the first forum I participated actively. Everything went down the drain when they decided to change the whole thing...

Sometimes, websites are like spaghetti sauce: if it's good, don't change the recipe too much.

It is sad. I remember when it was for sale and made an inquiry only to be completely ignored.
