he's one of my favorite photographers. i just noticed somebody uploaded 犬の記憶 last month so here it is for you guys in case you didn't see it yet

One of my GRs is signed by Moriyama-san, and my Polaroid portrait of him is somewhere on filmwasters too... If you can catch him, he's more than happy to talk about his work, and what it means to him as well. His lack of eccentricity popular with popular photographers makes him very approachable indeed. Plus, his early Hokkaido work is simply some of the best I've ever seen.

If someone can tell me too perhaps how he makes his prints glow, and generates selective graining, I'd be mighty pleased! I did not ask him this, thinking it rude... Next time perhaps. Skj.

i have no clue how he makes his prints.. its evident he does a lot of work in the darkroom but as far as the process who knows. every picture he takes is so attractive to me.. he really is an inspiration.

I'm also a great fan of Moriyama.

There is a movie called Near Equal Daido Moriyama (also named "Stray dog of tokyo") that is pretty good, and english subbed. It shows a small glimpse of how he makes his hands dance in the light of the enlarger to make a print. Probably won't help your much, but it is pretty interesting to watch.

i think there used to be a subbed version but it must have been taken down cus i dont see it anymore.

i cant quite understand everything either but its cool enough to see him shoot in some parts haha.

If you really want them, I think you better use the DownloadHelper Firefox extension and save them to your drive. The plug-in works better when the videos are played directly on the youtube site.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of camera he's wielding in this video. I'm thinking it might be a Ricoh but not sure. The video quality is not good enough to distinguish. It sounds like it has an auto advance feature and I couldn't make out any film advance lever he was using. Then again it might be digital. He would hold the camera while not looking through the viewfinder so I'm perplexed. It's not a big thing but it's intriguing.

if i remember correctly hes been using a ricoh gr1 with tri-x for many years (i think. correct me if im wrong). in another video, araki says that many photographers nowadays are defined by their cameras whereas moriyama is the master of his camera. what i think he means is basically moriyamas so used to the 28mm that he knows hows its going to be framed without looking and knows his camera inside out.

It was simply fantastic!! He just opens to the camera and explains so many personal things, it´s great that you can view and hear the man behind the camera. Thanks again for sharing the video, and subtitles makes a difference!
