The search for photos of China's past

A fascinating article and slide show from the BBC about early photographs of China.  There is an amazing 12 inch negative of the port of Shanghai.

Fantastic pictures! I wonder what TLR camera the girl is holding @1.34... an early Seagull model maybe?? Ah... where's my "Cameras of China" book is when I need?

I also like the "ghost" on the bottom left of the picture @2.51.

While at Carl's doing the collodion workshop early this year he showed me an amazing book with pictures of 19th century China's photography, unfortunately I can't remember the name...
