Real Film Sighted in Another Hipster Music Video
« on: May 09, 2012, 02:47:37 PM »
It's good to see that TIP is keeping on the inside track with all hipster releases in the music world. One of my fave artists, Dr John, has a new album out and the teaser video for the session features a huge amount of recording studio porn with some instant film prints thrown in for good measure. There's a shot of a stack of prints near the start and another (feat. the black bordered TIP film) right at the end.

I keep obsessing on the wear and tear on the Telecaster and the plaid shirts everyone are wearing :)

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Yes, this is a great clip. The new album, "Locked Down" is pretty stunning. Much as I love him,  Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack, Jr.'s recorded output has been uneven over the years to say the least, but boy is this latest one a cracker.

Very good, it's even got a dog in it !!!

Though actually a nod to an internal combustion engine and maybe some reel to reel would have finished it off.  ;D ;D ;D

Yep, a reel to reel would be nice but if you thought the cost of film was expensive try buying reels says a man who has had a couple of Revox's and is now storing on a Yammy hard drive... Yep I went over to the dark side happily on that front...

On another note at the start of recent England football games they’ve introduced the players with them having an Instax shot taken and then signing it before sticking it towards the camera lens.

I have to say, to date, the good Doctor's work has rather passed me by, but I really like that. I'll have to check him out some more.

thanks Ed for the introduction - I;ve always admired Dr J from a distance, but the Black Keys link on this one forced me to get a bit closer.  It is stupendous. Amazing.  Best music I've heard for a long time.

it's so good to be able to tell the sound of REAL instruments. Those Nord thingies might save on a lorry load of gear, but they still aren't quite the same - give me a fender rhodes and an old hammond with a leslie anytime.
