Is that a Diana?
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:15:12 PM »
1973 - a 12 year old me with trousers that are too short. Is that a Diana hanging from my neck?

I know people will groan when I say this, but it looks like a Coronet Mark II 4x4 to me....of course it could be a Diana, but the lens barrel looks too grey. On Dianas they're black with some fake chrome trim, right? This looks grey....like the Coronet. Anyway, the Coronet 4x4 is way cooler than a Diana.

It does kinda look like the Coronet, but, does the Coronet have a strap?
Mine doesn't.
????

Regardless, it is a VERY cool photo!!!!

Top line isn't right for the Coronet. Looks more like a Diana to me but I hear what you're saying about the lens colour. Mine had a black lens though I don't remember any chrome on it.

Could be. I know it's not a Commander since it has the black knob on top. So does the Diana so that's out of the list... unless they made some clones with the wind button the same color as the body?

But I think Ed's right, it probably is a Coronet. That would be logical in a geographical sense.

But I just found this poster online and it could be a Traceflex, a Debonair or one of the models with a fake meter...

When I first saw the picture I thought about the Coronet as well...  then the Debonair came in my mind afterwards but I still think is a Coronet.

The top of the Coronet have a much brighter tone than the Dianas, especially when comparing to the Debonair...  I think Francois pointed out well about the geographic factor.

I must say when I saw the snap I thought he looked quite handsome at that age!

Nevertheless,in that light and at that time of year what film would he have been using - and is the lens of optimal resolution or would he have been better with the Travelex? Oh sorry, wrong forum  ;D

Not at all, Andrea. You make a very good point. Personally, I was horrified by the lack of a lens cap and the complete absence of a camera bag stuffed full of red dot compatible lenses. I was also semi-blinded by the vibrant blue trouser suit that the lady in the middle is wearing  :D

I don't know if the ensemble was made using the highly flammable Fortrel?
Probably the most stylish fabric ever created  ::)

François, you have sold it to me. I'm sure they are very flattering for the more mature gentleman. The return of beige and khaki is long overdue.

Maybe a Rex, rebadged Coronets .. Diff trim.

But they tend to have the strap on the case.

1973 great year, though '76 and '79 were better  :)

OK, I've made a detailed study and I think it is a Diana. As Peter said the top isn't right for the Coronet and if you look at the bottom of the viewfinder it seems to dip down as it does on the Diana. [nerd moment over]  ;D

I haven't a clue what it was - it's only when I saw the photo I remembered having the camera.

One thing that is certain Ed's in trouble when I tell me mum what he said about her trouser suit ;)

Yup, Ed's like that, the things he used to say to my mother. The amount of times she tried to leave the house only to have Ed shake his head and say, "Not with those shoes dear..."
