how I know it's Spring

this may be a tad OT, but the first Hummingbird of the season arrived this morning.
I think of them as the "official" sign that it's Spring here in the mountains.

To keep this on topic, they are often photographed with my Nikon F100 w/180 lens but I need to get faster as I've wasted LOTS of film on them and only have a scant few shots to show for it.

anyone else have their own sign of a season?
or Springtime photo favorite subject?

For me it has to be the blackthorn flowers that poke out before any of the leaf buds.

Sandeha - the May flowers are nice to see, but I can't cope with the smell.

Talking of smell, my springometer is always activated by the Ramsons in a local Alderbed meadow. The smell in here is overpowering, they don't call it wild garlic for nothing. I always stop to liberate a few leaves to make pesto with - it's delicious.

Hi Andrea.

As someone who was born and spent his formative years in the NW of England (but now lives in the driest part of England - i.e. Essex) I am very used to rain. However, right now, early April = hosepipe ban.

I never thought I'd hear myself think or say this but I really hope it buckets down here solid for a week or so....

Around here, spring is here when we see the first red robin. After that, we wait and wait. And suddenly, everything is in bloom, we have summer like weather and my allergies are acting up. I just hate tree pollen... :(

But right now, there are a few tulips growing. We have one crocus peeking at the sun... Not much greenery yet but gulls are here...

Sandeha, those blooms are gorgeous!

Paul & Paul - how I miss Texas and bluebonnets! 

Leon - I'm wooed by that beautiful black and white!!

For me it's the blooming trees.  We are still in the midst of candyland.  Colored trees of every color.  Dogwoods, Magnolias, and the almighty Cherry.  In fact, virtually everyday has been sunny with a 100% chance of cherry blossom showers (some gusty at times).  Pink confetti EVERYWHERE, in your hair on your car, inches deep along every curb - - it's like someone's throwing us a party!  :)
