Saw this on British Journal of Photography's site as well.

I've not used slides for a very long time but used Kodak products when I did.

The only time I used slide film was when I got two promotional rolls... something we don't see anymore.

sad news for the world of film. Any film being discontinued is a bad thing.

Well, somehow I think this was to be expected considering the mess they got themselves into...
I don't think there are still many pros who use slide film... and the xpro crowd isn't big enough to keep the line going.

It's disappointing to see, but I have had a hard time justifying using Kodak reversals over Fuji because of prices and choices.    Though I must confess I hoarded a few, so I can at least pay proper tribute.

Slightly off topic, what's surprising is that BW400CN remains in production.   I see hundreds of rolls being dumped on fleabay.  I know it's C-41 so it must share production cost with Portra/Ektar, but is there that much demand for this film?

I share most of your sentiment.  Always a little sad to see anything film die.  But I don't use a ton of slide film, and when I do it's Fuji since it's cheaper and I like the colors better.

Probably good news in the long run.  No more Kodak wasting money on a film that doesn't sell well.  No more competition for Fuji in the very small E6 market.  Maybe now I'll be able to score fresh Velvia for a few more years...

To be honest I only really buy Portra and Ektar from Kodak.  If they discontinued everything they make other than those I would pretty much be fine with that since Fuji has E6 and instant covered and Ilford has a great range of B&W.  I only ever get Tri-x because it's usually cheaper than HP5+, those films seem just about the same to me but I'm no expert.

Kodak: a company that used to make products, now they just discontinue them.

There dont seem to be much competition except for bw. fuji E6 slide Provia, velvia; they have 400 ISO E6! bw acros and instant. For Kodak I'll be buying mostly C41 color ektar portra. Ilford for bw delta, FP4, HP5, PanF, etc. efke maybe a few 127 film, R25, impossible   ??? I doubt I'll be buying much of anything from them.

seems like this has been in the works for awhile. the new ektar was made to rival the color and grain of slide film...

I have a stash of E6 Kodak, but after it's gone, I'm not really worried.
Ektar is lush and what I like to use most of the time for color now.

Just kind of sad to see  so many films go by the wayside the past few years.....
