Weekend starts early again due to 'storm stopping play'
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:08:53 AM »
Another storm bound day hanging onto the roof etc. Still, I did a darkroom thing yesterday producing both rc and fibre prints of this. Paper neg in MF folder, developed then stuck in enlarger. Eh? Why not?

The Tea Cake Connoisseur surveyed the feast before him and noticed there were no tea cakes. A candle drooped in his disappointed glare.

Image capturing media; Orwo single weight.

I think I posted in the wrong weekend.  How time flies!

This is a new project.  Larry, the singer.  This should be fun.

Paul, this last trip I did find an old American car from when the US army was there. Unfortunately, you rarely see vintage cars in Crete.

Wow--a whole set of very cool monochrome photos.  Diane--I like your streetscapes from Paris and Iceland a lot.  Is it OK to post some color?  Well, here goes: more Portra NC this time night shots with guesstimated exposures.  Living dangerously!  Exakta VXIIa with the Meyer 100mm.

Stormy here too in the Dales - My village even made the news (well, Teletext) with people being rescued from their car roof after they'd been swept off the road into the River Ure.  I wondered why I was hearing the nagging drone of a helecopter for so long, only to open the curtains and see the lights from about five rescue vehicles down in the valley 500 yards below us.  Everyone safe and well but suffering from hyperthermia in our not so local hospital.

If the wind and rain easies a little I might even pop down there tomorrow with camera in hand to see if there's any evidence to record.  Keep warm folks.

Ricoh GR1 tests -- cross-processed Ektachrome.  You just never know what you're going to get.  Which is kind of cool, but kind of not.

Massive start to the weekend, guys.....all-round stunning!

My favourites are J Warden's market scene (which looks as if it could have been shot during the depression in the 1930's) and Phil Bebbington's shot from Crete (which made me think immediately of Don Quixote and Rocinante).

Hookstrapped's GR1s cross processe shots are lovely (must have a go at this technique soon).

Some from me later when I've scanned some more of my negatives from the Sri Lanka trip.

Terry -  The second shot for some reason (I guess the light...) reminds me David Lynch's "Silencio Bar" from Mulholland Drive...
Dynamo - I really like the bokeh on this shot! wonderful...

I'm going through some old negs... this one is from eight years ago in Berlin.

Great work here.  Diane, I really like your Paris pictures.  I also really like the manger scene and the goose picture.  I really like the variety of work that gets posted here.
I shot this image at Flamingo Jim's in Rockaway Beach Oregon.  He makes garden statues on site.  I am calling this image Gnapping Gnomes.

Wonderful work. Most of all I love Dynamos flowers, amazing! And Phils photo from Create is great. And the rest of them also....

Showing two photos from Paris. From the garden of Albert Kahn, don't think I have shown this before, or have I? If i have, just ignore them.

Yet more greatness......

Love Dynamo's flowers and Sapata's not-so-candid shot of the lady on the train.

My efforts this week are a few more from our recent trip to Sri Lanka. Tuk-Tuks, bustling markets and tourists traipsing up hundreds of stairs in the rain to hidden Buddhist temples are just some of the signature sights to been seen out there.

Ricoh GR1s / Ilford XP2 + minimal PP work.

Mauricio, thanks for the Lynch reference!  Re: the u-bahn candid--it looks to me like she's got her eyes closed.  She looks very peaceful, even meditative in an old lady on the subway sort of a way.  I particularly like the pattern made by the multiple reflections of lighting fixtures in the window in the end door.

Hookstrapped--Larry the singer looks like a promising series.

Love Mr.Miller's tree and Hook's Roger Sanchez.

Andrea's openers too, plus the Goose / Duck.

I Flipped the lens on the ratty old Brownie Hawkeye Flash I got recently.  These are some test shots that have convinced me to go and find something real to shoot.  The 1996 PanF Plus was a tad too slow  :) but nicely bled it's numbers through the backing paper ...  Stand Dev in RO9 for 65mins 100:1

Nice start Andrea,
Diane love the hotel shot (you never struck me as being so adventurous)!
Miles great effect, really like FL1 and FL3
Miller's tree, Dynamo's Flower, Mick's geese/ducks, Sapata's old lady, Greyfish's marshes...........and lots of other great pics.

An exceptional weekend.

The bad weather over the last few weeks has seen me catch up with my back-log of developing. The results from holding holga filters in front of a pentax espio lens - from a student of the Wiesmier school of serendipity in photography (as mentioned in the 'artist statement' thread). Fomapan 100 developed in Aculux.

This is actually from a while back.  I had used a different shot from this shoot for my series, but as the series evolved that other shot was no longer working -- to be honest, not sure if it ever did.  So I went back to the negs and found this one.

Another neg from long time ago... and another rare ocasion where I photograph people. Opposite to the lady on the tube, this time I asked this man if I could make his portrait.

I met him briefly in a cafe in Sweden while me and my wife were backpacking...and he was one of the most wonderful person I've ever met!

Nevermind is out of focus, this photograph is the perfect register of the ocasion ...

I've been having a ball playing around with Silverprint's new Solar Paper in advance of the next video podcast. I tried a few photograms (as you do) and then moved onto contact printing from some digital negs. I am very pleased with the way they've come out. This image was originally captured on colour Fuji instant film with my Tachihara. I knocked up a digi neg last night and printed it today.

The right hand print was chronically underexposed at 45 mins. The print on the left fared much better at approx 3 hours in very dull daylight. I stained the underexposed print in coffee which dulls the blue to a darker bluish grey. I'll do the same with the better print at some point. Each print is about 10x8 and they both look pretty darn cool in the flesh.
