Steichen in Québec City
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:04:58 PM »
I know it won't be a very popular visit with us since it's now more than a 3 hour boring highway drive for me just to get there... but I thought it would be of some interest just to say that Edward Steichen's pictures from his Condé Nast years (1923-1937) are on display at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Québec city...

225 pictures are on display.

That looks cool. Quebec City is far away from everywhere but very beautiful this time of year.

Québec's always been a beautiful city... even when the British came (I think it was the 1600's... now you know that I slept through history class), they didn't want to bombard it with cannonballs because they said it was too nice to destroy...

Sadly no... it's a friggin' long drive to get there.
Thing is I live in a province that is literally crumbling to pieces! Since our wise politicians decided that roads would last forever even when not maintained, we're now stuck with an epidemic of construction cones and concrete barriers. I have no idea how long it would really take me to get there. On a nice summer day with no road work, it takes at least 3 hour to get there. Considering that just about every bridge and overpass is either under construction or in desperate need of some... just to go around a roadwork site near my place takes about 1:45h... it's normally a 2 minute drive through...

Scary!

I'd have guessed North Korea if it weren't for the fact that I don't think they had roads like this in North Korea in the first place. Wow.

Just to say how bad it is, everybody that comes out of the airport has to get through there!

Also, last Wednesday, they had to close down the Downtown exit to everybody coming into town from the South Shore (where I live) because the city had found it necessary to pry the exit structure with some plywood and wood studs... makes you feel very safe doesn't it?
