Now here's an interesting one (maybe)... A while back now, we took a family holiday to Lakes Entrance on Victoria's east coast and my newly acquired Fujipet camera went on holiday with us (even though it had just had a nice little flight from Tokyo to Melbourne)
Anyway, we had happy days, playing in the sea and having fun getting sand-blasted when the wind really picked up (*note: Peel-apart Polaroid photography is a real pain in these conditions)
So I got home & handed my roll of Fujipet holiday memories to the local lab to develop. When I went to pick them up, the manager comes over and says "I'm sorry Mr. Stephen, but one of our more inexperienced staff accidentally exposed the film to light at some stage during the development process and the roll is ruined"
ARRGH (I'm thinking) ~ OK, what can you do? Ranting and raving doesn't bring back your lost photographic memories, so I asked for the film roll anyway with the thought of using it for practice loading onto a tank reel if I ever get around to developing my own film... errr, yes, I'm sure I'll get there eventually!
About 8 months later on I purchased a 120 neg capable scanner, and was looking through my old negatives to scan some in and whilst unrolling this rather exposed negative (having forgotten what it was from) looking for some images, I faintly see a few suggestions of
something. So what the hell, I loaded them into the negative carrier and started scanning. Lo and behold, with the aid of some digital darkroom image reclamation processes I managed to get about 3 images from the roll! These two images are the best of them...
(...and the moral to this story? I have no idea! Never give up? Honestly, I don't know, it's just an anecdote)
