Have a look at this website - particularly if you (like myself) have ever had some scans with "banding" but didn't know why - or how to remove them.....

did you try turps and a wad of Brasso?  Works for me every time for me.

My scanner is pretty dirty and banding is evident, atleast I have a solution until I invest in a better one, thanks a bunch ;)
