Film is Not Dead
« on: August 20, 2011, 06:38:39 AM »
Of course we all know it, but it seems that film is catching on again...

Video I found on CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2011/08/18/natpkg.film.not.dead.yet.cnn?iref=allsearch

There's a short ad in front of the video that I'm not sure how to get rid of...sorry.

Interesting film, I wonder why CNN produced it, it doesn't seem to be presented like the sort of short news\interest segment that I am used to see from the BBC or other UK broadcasters.

I wonder how many non-film viewers have seen\will get to see it?

I like the prominence of Ilford products in the film, so do Ilford\Harman I guess.

Thanks for posting.

Once you get past the twee fake computer voice bookends there's some excellent content.  I like the plug they gave to K&M too.

It seems whichever link I use I get a different CNN story, but, nothing to do with film. One was a Libya story and the other a Kansas air crash. Perhaps this Greek wifi is playing games!

Interesting video and an even more interesting title. Personally, I'd prefer to see titles like "Film - very much alive and kicking" rather than reference to "not dead yet" - which infers that it will be some day.

I'm a great believer in positive thought - not to the extent that it can cure illnesses or diseases - but that issues can morph into self-fulfilling prophecies if you don't adopt a positive attitude towards them.

Where film is concerned, Adam Smith, the 18th century philosopher and economist probably put it best when he said:

“Consumption is the sole end and purpose of all production; and the interest of the producer ought to be attended to, only so far as it may be necessary for promoting that of the consumer.”

or, more simply, "if you don't use it, you'll lose it".
"An ounce of perception. A pound of obscure".
