What should we call this?

Well... I found this on MAKE this morning.
The guy actually built an instant camera...
It is analog, but uses no film!
It's actually an old B&W analog electronic camera that is hooked up to a hand programmed chip that outputs the image to a thermal printer.

still zeros and ones making up the image.. liked his electromechanical pong more ;D

I don't think so either... nifty gadget though for an all analog thing (no ones and zeros)
But man, having to stay still for so long in order to get a dodgy print that looks like a cash receipt must be somewhat disappointing...  :)

Thinking about this, does anyone remember the old kiosks you'd find in shopping malls during the 70's where they would take your picture with a device that printed out an image using only text characters?

I remember a while ago I saw something almost exactly like that.  It was marketed in the US as a kids toy and made by Fisher Price.

Very funny in a way :)
They even shaped it a bit like a Polaroid 600
Fisher Price: dropping the price of instant photography every day!

Sadly, I've never seen one of those around here... another toy I wish I had put my hands on...

I've been looking for one of those Fisher Price cameras for a few years but haven't been able to find one. I've heard that when they come up on eBay they sell for about $400.

Fisher Price made so much stuff that parents dismiss as junk but is in fact great.
I've always wanted their PXL2000 video camera! (you know, the one that used to record on regular audio cassette)
Mom never wanted to buy me one... and now they're considered a cult item for cinematographers...
