For my new night portrait series, I met Yesenia last night at a park for about 10 minutes and shot a roll. After a couple shots I think I pissed her off because I asked her if she could do a non-model look and just look like herself. It was a good move, I think.

All are lovely but.........

The second is my favourite (as it stands) as there's no bright lights / visual distractions - so you can concentrate solely on the model. For me, the 4th is probably best for the overall "look" - if you could crop the bright lights in the background top right and over her right shoulder.

#2 for me, she has a beautiful profile and I like the connection when she seems to be facing the house in the background, like she's leaving it behind..

Number 4 as the form of her body is more flattering and I like the contrast.... The blur on her nose and the light emitting from above equals for moi a rude bwoy shot as we say in patois... Oh, and the light spots 'bokeh' are bolder...

Only negative is the bench in number 3 looks stronger...

At the risk of being repetitive, No.4 for me.

Particularly like the addiitional detail in the side of her face and the not so obvious highlight from the light top right.

Me likee #4 for exactly the same reasons as Miller, but acknowledging also that it IS all about the bench ;-)

And just to even out the score, I'll say #1... so no more broken record

In #3, her posture is not flattering and you can't really tell if her eyes are open...
in #2, there is a lot of tension in her face. Like if her attention was suddenly grabbed by some unknown event.
#4 is OK, the bench makes it look more like it was shot in the city... but when looking at what looks like the fence in the background, I keep thinking she's at the ball game...

I like #4 as well. I like the framing of the bench and her looking away. I didn't like that at first but it has grown on me.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! It's been interesting reading the comments. I posted this same call for advice on another board and the majority choice was different.

I think each might be good for a different purpose. I was trying to get an honest portrait of the young woman who happens to be a model, rather than the young woman modeling. For me, 1 and 3 get closest to what I was after, but I'm not sure if it shows in the pics or if that was simply my judgment while taking the pics. For 2 and 4 she reverted to model mode, something I believe we all do with different levels of intent and skill when our portraits are taken.

Portraiture is pretty new to me so I'm trying to learn. Thanks for helping me.
