Imqossible manufacturing movie
« on: June 04, 2011, 12:05:25 PM »
I got this from mijonju's twitter stream.  It's in dutch (or maybe flemish - not sure where the factory is), but is interesting none-the-less:

When you view it from the Youtube website, clicking on the bottom CC icon gives you English captions...

More footage on it; it's the TIP factory in Enschede, NL.

Interesting Film.

The pod machine looks similar to that on the 20x24 camera site.

However it has got me wondering.  I know Ilford were a partner in the early days but who's and what film are impossible using in their packs?

They probably use something similar to their direct positive paper for the silvershade film...

Ilford also has good knowledge of direct positive color process through their acquisition of the Cibachrome process way back.

Ilford photo hasn't had anything to do with the Cibachrome/ Ilfochrome since 2004 when the company split into HARMAN Technology ltd and Ilford Imaging Switzerland GmbH. I think a Japanese company bought the rights to development and production from the Swiss company - not sure about that though.  Either way, it is very likely that Ilford photo would not be allowed to come up with a similar product as part of the split agreement. That probably explains why the imqossible colour films are not gorgeous bright, saturated colours like ilfochrome.

Although impossible are breathing life back into instant integral film, the repairman who had worked there for 25+ years seemed (slightly understandably) glum.

Nice to see a little insight into how it all works. There is a 'how do they do that' kind of programme on canadion tv soon too.

Interesting. Although wasted a few today by poor shielding, hope they sort that soon... but we've been through all that before!
