My wife, Catherine, is a ceramic artist. Whenever she throws on the wheel I am fascinated - watching a raw lump of clay being turned into some or other recognizable form. It's a bit like watching an image emerge in the developer - sort of!

Yesterday, as she made some test pieces (yes potters also experiment), I ran off a roll on the Rollei with my homemade magnifier lens attached.

The film was Fuji Across rated at 200 ISO and developed in Caffenol C-L.

Hi Lawrie.

Love the photos - a really stunning set. The middle one works best for me - but that doesn't detract from the others. My wife and I had a bowl and jug thrown by a local potter and it's a wonderful set. I tried to persuade the local group of artisans to let me go and take some shots similar to those in your set - but to no avail. Maybe one day...

I noticed the lens works better on one large subject than a multitude of small details...

Ho yus! These rock, Lawrie. As a fan of the home made/modified lens myself I'm really pleased these have come out so well...but the success is more about you than the lens I would suggest

wow! really works for the subject. and this reminds me of a charming conversation I had with a pottery maker I photographed last year, we kind of came together on the craft side of what we both were into

but this makes me think.... I wonder how a clay camera would look?
