I scored big time!
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:36:58 PM »
Just picked up a perfect condition Pentax K1000 SE from a guy here in Albuquerque for $40.
Local dude, really nice too!
He threw in 20 rolls of expired Velvia 50 just for kicks.

There is a heaven and it looks very analog!!

That's a score... Here's a link as regards the merits of the original Velvia...

Niiice!

The original Velvia was wonderful. And it X-processed very well too.

And the Pentax... these were almost bulletproof!

Becky: Score indeed. Well done. the film is a major bonus. Use it wisely.

Miller: I can't get enough of Ken Rockwell's website. I'm so glad it's still around...the guy's a star. He makes me laugh a lot, but in an affectionate way (check out THAT LENS on the homepage) and the site is so old school-looking, BUT I do actually take notice of what he says and find his writing pretty helpful. I eventually bought my Tachihara 4x5 several years after reading about it on his site. Unless I'd come into money in-between times, I was always going to buy a Tachihara instead of something like a Shen Hao. I let Ken and his huge lens guide me  :D I also like his 'proper cameras' quips and his use of the phrase 'real raw format' to describe film.

This thread brings back memories. I learnt to make photos on an MX when I was 12. I can agree with Francois - they are almost bulletproof. I still have it and works absolutely fine despite the number of times it's been bashed about.
As for Ken Rockwell's site - I love it too. That's the first place I checkout if I want a no-nonsense review.

Nice one Astro! The film must make you feel very happy too. Last time I got that kick I was in Boots the chemist in Kirkcaldy and they were selling off velvia, ilford b&w, fuji for 50p a roll. That was 4 years ago and I still remember walking out with a bag containing the entire stock!

Yeah Karl,  it's hard to knock off this grin I have on my face!
Every time I walk by the table that I have the film set out on, the grin gets bigger.
Pretty soon I'll won't have any ears left.   ;D

If a tiny little Tachihara is good enough for Ken "Huge lens on my homepage" Rockwell, then it's good enough for me  :D :D

My day just got immensely better!
The guy that sold me the camera and threw in the Velvia just called to say he found 40 more rolls of film in his freezer that he wants to GIVE me!!!!

I feel faint!   :)
