As an infrequent visitor, I'd love to submit. I could also persuade a few people to purchase a copy

Ok -  I think we have enough interest from people to say this is likely to work.

I'll put together a list of the people who have volunteered services, and we can start a project group.  Bear with me though, I'm a bit pushed for time at the mo - things should settle in the next week or so, but feel free to give me a gentle nudge if it seems things are dragging on.

As for the title, I like Weekend Thread, but it is a bit ambiguous unless you are a site user.  I suppose we are mainly doing this book for ourselves, so it will make sense to us lot, but maybe not so much to others who buy the book.

I was thinking "Wasting Film" or "Film Wasting" as a title. But, these are things we can sort out once we've go the project group up and running. I'm happy to be told my title suggestion is ridiculous  :)

I was thinking "Wasting Film" or "Film Wasting" as a title.

Wasting Film
Volume One: The Weekend Threads

A collaboration, of filmwasters from across the world. (Assuming I make the cut).

I like Filmwasters as a title, Weekend Threads as a subtitle.

Skorj beat me to the punch.

This was my idea of titling the book as well, (with a few modifications).  It's short, and it nails what's to come from inside the pages.

"Wasting Film
Volume One: The Weekend Threads

A collaboration from filmwasters around the world"

This is a great idea.

We did a Blurb book of student images this past semester http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2004997?utm_source=TellAFriend&utm_medium=email&utm_content=2004997,
and if you use a site like Blurb it can be as easy or complex as you wish to make it.

Count me in in any fashion you need; sounds like some very talented designers/wasters in the group can pull this off in beautiful fashion.

I'd love to at least be able to submit some work whether it's accepted or not.

Has a tentative schedule been established regarding submissions, etc?

I love the title ideas too! ;D

I probably fall into the category of commited lurker.  Having been around for some years but rarley posting.

As stated earlier I did organize the TOYCAM book that started over on toycamera.com though we didn't put any limits on who could enter, it was open to all toycamera users regardless of membership on the forum.  Not really relavent if your purpose is to have a book solely representing the members here.  I doubt I'd make the requirments but I consider submitting if I was allowed.

Having spent over a year working on the TOYCAM book I'd be happy to answer any questions and let you know how we tackled issues.  The main suggestion I can give is set up a clear organization chart with a set decission making process and make sure to give one person the power to make decissions when everything is tied otherwise you will end up talking in circles.  I would also suggest you make the book design and layout decissions in house, community voting can work for big things like cover design and title, but you will want a small group making all the other decissions.

Having a ghraphic designer who has experience laying out a book in PDF format is big also.  Blurb allows you to upload a book designed in PDF which allows you total control of every inch of each page.  The blurb software is not very good for creating a unique book.  Plus it is easy to pass low-res versions of the book around to each member of the team when it is a PDF.  We did that and it allowed every person on the team to see each edit to the book.

Give yourself enough time to do it right.  Working over e-mail makes everything take way longer than you will think.  Take the amount of time you expect the book to take and triple it.

Good luck and I look forward to the result.

One last thing Blurb is expensive.  Set the size and number of pages of your book and the quality of the paper up front.  I suggest going with the premium paper as it is less see through (meaning you can't see the image on the other side of the paper).  I like the hardbacks, but that adds cost.  You can offer a book in hardback and softback, but since the covers are different (dust jacket for hardcover) you will need two designs for the covers.  You will also need to order a few test books when it is done to ensure that everything prints as you want.  Keep that in mind, we ended up ordering 2 rounds test copies so that was over $100 US out of our pockets.  Not much but keep in mind and budget.

Seeing as you've been a member for 20 months, I think you would meet the requirements more than three times over! Please do submit when the time comes :)

And thanks very much for your insight on the process.  I'm certain there will be more questions to come :)

I think Astrobeck's idea for the book title sounds perfect!
