Coolest place in the world...

seriously.

i was up north the past couple days, and about 20 miles from the grand canyon is this place called "bedrock city" in valle, az. was built in the 60s by hanna of hanna-barbara, and some family owns it now. i was there this morning, it was about 40 degrees with 25 mph winds...i had the place all to myself. i took tons of photos, this is just a small taste. it's really a great place. i'm going to make a flickr set for all of them. i probably have 50 shots easy.
the top three are type 85 prints...haven't scanned the negs yet. the others are 689 that expired in 1999.

Only in the States can you see stuff like that... Here, in Canada, the thing would have been bulldozed years ago to make place for a housing development...

well, it's out in the middle of nowhere (as evidenced by the lack of anything at all in the background)...except for being near the grand canyon. valle is uncorporated, meaning it's not even an actual town. just desert, trailers and not much water, like most of this state. if it were close to a city, i'm sure it would have been torn down 20 years ago.
i am amazed it's lasted as long as it has...glad it's there, though!

I've never been there before. Glad to see you made the journey and turned up some really cool snap shots before one day it does get demolished. I imagine you were in your glory shooting these. Good stuff, Moo...

rarely does something at a 'theme park' make me laugh out loud. i went inside the volcano and there were these pterries on a wheel going around and around squawking... it was so lo fi, i was absolutely thrilled! perfect.

It always makes me laugh how the most corny things grab our attention the most.
You don't think much about the advanced animatronic figures you get to see at Disney yet you always remember the "World's Biggest Ball of Yarn"....

yeah but he's just a cartoon pterodactyl. i imagine that if realism were key, then cavemen with feet-controlled cars wouldn't part of the landscape.
