developing paper in film developer
« on: November 09, 2010, 10:41:44 PM »
Hello all,

Seen a few bits on the web about either adding neg dev to paper dev or just using film developer to develop paper.

Has anyone any experience of this?  I fancy doing some contact sheets and may have a go with my HC-110

Cheers

It makes sense to me that one might develop paper in film developer but I have no experience with this.  I have, however, used Sprint paper developer (more or less like Dektol) to develop sheet film.  I used the stock developer diluted as if it were film developer and used a water bath several times during development to control contrast.  It worked very well.

Be prepared for long development times.

HC110 might work at the higher concentrations... but I too don't expect development to be fast.

You can use Rodinal at dilutions of 1:4 – 1:10 depending on the image warmth you want from the paper, but it's not really ecomomic.
Some companies made universal developers that would do both, but I found them a bit too active and grainy for film but OK for RC paper.
