I do like this. easy on the eyes, mostly bw with one color to hold it together. no problem looking at the photos but I do feel like I want to click on the menu headings. ohyeah, and the bottom bar is only half transparent on the first page. should it be like that?

anyway, just a quick look but those are my initial thoughts. keep it up!

fixed that - an oversight.  safari doesn't render alpha transparency I didn't check it in firefox before uploading...

I personally think the image on the homepage is too big. I think if you scaled it down just a bit say like at 400 or 500 it would be dead center, therefore not having to scroll up and down to view it, etc., and would make for a nicer homepage presentation. I also think the gray bar at the bottom is a tad bit of a distraction. The "rights reserved" might could be with a transparent background placed either to the right or left of the page near the bottom? Also, your "contact me" can be included in your "about" menu instead? If it were my website, I would prefer a black header text rather than the blue. Just my thoughts. Other than that, I say full speed ahead.

I also agree the the grey bar at the bottom drags the attention away, and maybe the image could be a bit smaller so we don't need to scroll down.

I'm not a big fan of texts explaining things but this is very personal, I'd say that the blue text is either too light or the black text is too strong. I don't get this feeling at the top in the main page but I get that when browsing through where there's quite a lot text on the right hand side.

Other than that the images are quite strong...I love the way the pictures pop up and you can navigate through, I've been thinking of doing that as well... what software did you use ?

All comments appreciated !!

In general the homepage image is 'too large' depending on your computer.  It fits my 15" powerbook just fine (but not my 12" powerbook). I"m using the 15" more or less the minimum bar of acceptance as intel macs, and 16 months or newer windows laptops as well as mac & win desktops afford even larger screen resolutions. Netbooks, and older laptops don't concern me too much about scrolling due to smaller screen resolutions. That (larger screen resolutions) also separate out the footer bar at bottom as well making it breathe more.

No special software - just a publicly available css/javascript  called scriptalicious. I customized it a bit to make the box for the zoomed images more attractive....  I just use Photoshop and an application called BBedit.

on reflection - modified the homepage to be more friendly to smaller resolutions.

I love that image as your opener Gregor!  Your images are stellar and it's a site I had a lot of fun sticking around and perusing.

The grey bar at the bottom does seem to be quite bold and draws the eye down.  I agree about loving something transparent instead and I would love to see the 'all rights reserved' statement on the bottom right (to balance the menus and your title on the upper left) and the 'contact me' under the About menu.

The blue text is very light to my eyes and seems like it's supposed to not really be noticed... but I'm sure that's not the intention.  Have you considered maybe making it a tiny bit darker (it's a beautiful color).

I'm VERY impressed - a beautiful site.  :)

Thanks Ann for the nice kudos :-)

I've been looking at that footer text and see everyone's point, and will attend to that this weekend ;-))
