Sometime ago somebody posted a scan of their negative and others were encouraged to post scans of their interpretation of the image.

I wonder of anybody would like to try with this one of mine. This image has just had basic levels adjustment nothing more but I will try to do something more with myself. The original untouched scan is here http://86.30.154.193/test/EFKE_950.tif

I'd love to have a go on your neg, but the file is way too big - can you link to a lower res?

a 16 bit grayscale at 400dpi would be fine.

Yes, too big. My browser estimates 45 minutes to download. But I had a go at the small one.

Here's another produced from the smaller file posted. I've had a pop at this in Lightroom 2 and added a bit of drama and a sepia tone. Clearly not an "analogue" technique but it's a lovely scene to work with. I'd be interested to hear what you think...

Thank you for your kind comments on the image. I glad you enjoyed working with it. I would not have thought of cropping it the way you have done. Loosing some of the fore ground gives it a different emphasis

At the time when I originally developed this set of negatives I under estimated what could be done with this and put it to one side, along with several others taken at the same time.

When I posted the file earlier today, I envisaged lighting up and trying to highlight the suns rays breaking through the clouds and was interested to see what other would do with it. However her is my attempt at doing this.

Peter I wouldn't have thought to darken this down as you have done so your interpretation give this a really dramatic feel.

LD I'm not seeing the sepia tone on this but this may be my monitor. However this to my mind doesn't detract from your interpretation.

It's incredible what you can find hidden in a negative if you turn the contrast up really high in Photoshop. Well spotted, Sean.

mike - I cant get the smaller file to download at all - have tried in chrome and safari on OSX and chrome and IE in windows bootcamp.

here is my effort. I think it's a negative that is quite limited in terms of interpretation, but the image itself is very nice indeed.

edit: apologies for the softness - the jpeg isnt that soft, so I suspect some forum resizing shenanigans are at play.

Like Leon, I've tried half a dozen ways to download a copy. The latest post opens up in Quicktime and starts asking me to buy a piece of Apple compatible software when I use a PC. Very weird.

Pity you don't have this available as a large size jpeg on Flickr or something akin as it's an image I'd love to have a play with in Lightroom 2. I'm no computer expert (far from it) but I have a load of "presets" that I tweak and use to get the best out of (and mess about with) some of my digital images.

There is an absolute masterpiece in that photo, I'm sure of it....

Thank you for persisting with this. As I said before I under estimated the potential in this negative.

I am please that you and other consider this a good image. I don't consider myself a landscape photographer or very confident in taking landscapes pictures.

It appears that the image on the forum is a png file. 650x463 in size.
The jpeg image is accessible and is 660x471.
I think ed said that images above a certain size are resized automatically.
Perhaps this has happened.
The jpeg image is gritter than png.

really liking the shot and it was fun toying around with your photo. been interested in this since the fw podcast where they were talking about printing others negatives.

here' my interpretation anyway.. made a point to not look at others before doing this in case.. yeah, it just felt better that way

As Leon has said there is limited scope for interpretation on this image. So it was probably a good idea not to look at others attempts before trying yourself. As a result you have produced a unique and extermely interesting take on it. Well Sean did as well but I think he may _cheated.

I can also see your image toned blue to good effect as well.

Love all these different takes on the same image but my absolute favorite is the Monty Pythonesque version. I might just have to break out some MP movies tonight and enjoy them with a glass of wine.
