Fuji Instax 200 Question
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:25:39 PM »
Just picked up a nice hardly used Instax 200 with IB. The IB doesn't indicate whether or not the flash always fires or just when it senses it is needed? Fill flash not an issue with me.

Thanks.

it'll automatically fire whenever it senses there's not enogh light. the flash can't be turned off, but i believe you can force it to fire if you feel it's neccesary.

If it's anything like the 100, there is a flash off button. The little red LED blinks and goes off after a few seconds. Same thing when you put it on. But the camera has some built in intelligence. Even if you tell it you don't want the flash, if it detects too little light, it will fire the flash anyways.

I wasted quite a few pictures trying to figure this one out and haven't yet found the threshold where the flash will or will not fire...

Also, notice that the focus setting is in portrait mode when the camera starts. You have to trigger it to distant mode manually (something I often forget)

I have a polaroid 600 that fires no matter if you're in darkness or next to the sun... :o I cut a piece of black cardbord just enough to cover the unit, if I need it back I flip the card up and the flash is back in bussiness...

That's pretty odd... except for the Impulse series, they all have a dual triggering system which is built around a strange but reliable switching system inside the camera (I took one apart to try out a contraption that ultimately failed). The front button triggers the flash, the L shaped button just under it is for shutter only. When you press the front button, it also actuates the L shaped button and thus triggers the flash. Some flash-less models were also made.
