Photo Goals for Summer 2010
« on: May 24, 2010, 01:53:04 PM »
In another post I was mentioning my plans to play with the new Impossible PX100 over the summer:

In addition to playing with the PX100, I'm hoping to have a Polaroid summer (something I had hoped to do last year but other stuff intervened). I want to spend the summer making pictures on the remainder of my Polaroid film (Types: 55, 669, 559, 665, 59, SX70). Been keeping track of my ideas and I'm hoping that when Labor Day rolls around that I'll have a large body of work to show for it.

Anyone else have photography goals/plans for the summer?

My brand new Mamiya 7II finally arrived, with the 43mm super wide lens, so I'm hoping to get a ton of film of various flavors wasted during the summer.  I also will be teaching a one week class on using and abusing the Holga - if such a thing can be taught - at a local community college.  And, if there is time left over, I have a rebuilt Ansco Speedex folder I want to run some film thru, as well as a newly rebuilt Agfa Isolette to point at things.  Should be lots of fun, and relaxing!  I'm going to avoid mowing the lawn until the community forces me to do so!

Anyone else have their summer dance card filled?

I'm planning on going through several boxes of TXP320 in the scorching high chaparral of Southern California. I'm starting this weekend at a place called Laguna Meadows.

besides building an observatory.....

my plans are to dive into "lith" printing and try some salt prints!

Other than that I plan on staying cool and working more in the darkroom!

You plan on using casters or make a giant ball bearing out of golf balls for the dome rotation?

I plan on swallowing my fear and actually going up to strangers and asking them if I can take their picture. I've been doing a bit of this recently and I've really enjoyed it- getting the photo and the story.

Probably to try and do the things I told myself I would do last year and the year before. I do have a tendency to drag my feet.

Congrats Mr Sausage  :D Two babies...quite a handful.

Urban...good luck with yours.

My photo plans for the summer are to continue with my Polaroid staining and to get more scans & prints made of them. Some to frame, some to give away.

Congratulations with the babies. Make the most of every stage, they grow up fast -- my oldest passed his driving test yesterday and is off to university in the autumn. Seems like yesterday when he was still in nappies.

As far as projects is concerned, I'm trying to finish one with my Gakkenflex and I've got loads of other ideas. Just no time to do them.

Sounds like everyone has some great plans lined up! As for myself, contiuation of some ongoing projects as well as a new one starting this weekend, which will likely use a good chunk of my pola 665 cache: documenting Soap Lake - a mineral rich lake here with a natural spa. Mud bathing on the shores and the whole spectrum of activities of locals and visitors. A large contigent of ukranians and Baltic state immigrants flock to the lake making for very intersting subjects.

Then, there's still that self imposed project of continuing to aclimate myself to that wee tiny 135 format!

Take a decent picture with my Mamiya 6 - I've had it nine months and have shot eight rolls of film, but so far nothing worth shouting about - and I thought this square format thing would be a doddle!

Buy a 15mm lens for my Bessa L - I p/x the 12mm Heliar I had to fund the Mamiya 6 as I could never get a good exposure with it and the distortion really irked me!

Persuade the better half  (yes I am a Gemini but I don't think that's the problem) to let me set my p/t darkroom up in the laundry more than once every 4-6 weeks!

Oh, and to post more pictures to and got more involved on FW  - now officially the site I love the best

Not too ambitious really!

I'm signed up for a polaroid transfer class later this summer.  I've always wanted to learn this technique and I will be taking photos throughout the summer so hopefully I will have something to print by the time my class rolls around.

Ok, so not all of my shots for this summer are in the back country, some are in the "fore country." Here's some recent work, this time shot on Tri-X 320;

Hi Brian, the first of the country shots is great, but my fave of the bunch is the 2nd of the flyover shots. I love the composition and the texture of all that concrete really comes across well. Absolutely beautiful.

On a more general note I need to add "do more 5x4 pinhole work" to my summer list (as discussed on other threads here).

The big tree is pretty amazing, but, like Ed I find the second motorway shot the most pleasing - super stuff.

Brian,
this stuff looks like it was taken around "The Enchanted Circle"  or the back country around Los Alamos.

Where is this?  It's wonderful stuff.

The class is at Pacific NW College of Art and I thought it was July 19th but actually it is this Saturday June 19th.  I am scrambling to get slides made.  I thought I had another month to shoot.  Yikes!

I plan to build a long focal length pinhole camera.  300mm on 6x9cm I have a plan to shoot some landscapes with it.  I'm not sure how it will work out but it will be an opportunity to combine my interests in carpentry and photography in a singe project.

The B&Ws were shot in the Laguna Mountains east of San Diego, CA. This is an area called the Laguna Meadows, a truly enchanting place amid the arid brown bleakness of Southern California.

BTW Astrobeck, where are you located? Did I read you are thinking of building an observatory? I also am in the planning phases of my observatory, which will be a 10 Pro-Dome. Initially it will be on a site about 70 miles east of San Diego, but eventually I would like to move it up to Mount Laguna.
