Well... yes. It is a slit camera (or more likely a very failed attempt at making one.
I was trying to build one for my Contraption series that would be very simple to make. I got this automatic advance camera that had fixed focus. Since it was hell to take apart (why did they have to put so many screws?) the shutter without dismantling everything, I opted to try and drill out the shutter. I missed my mark and hit a set of aperture blades behind it. This is only to eventually figure out I could lock the shutter open using a simple screwdriver to bend down a small tin piece...
I reassembled everything, marked the viewfinder with a paint marker so I knew where the center of the frame was approximately situated. Then, I made the slit opening. About 1mm cut in black cardboard that I previously bent box style so it would fit inside the film chamber without moving or letting light through.
I really thought I had everything under control... Open the lens, press the shutter. And when the subject is close to the center line, release the button to let the winder do the exposure. I even calculated the shutter speed to be about 1/54th of a second using a sound editing program.
I must admit I was pretty psyched about this one... that is until I saw the results.
Dark frames with a dark separation between frames. Lots of light spilling inside. An odd looking pink bar on almost all images (I can't figure out where it came from since it's not at the same place on all images...)
A complete nightmare.
