Old photo mags
« on: May 05, 2010, 04:30:18 PM »
I went to a camera fair last Sunday and came away with two boxes of old photographic mags (10 pounds to you Sir). Still ploughing through them but just came across this one which was published 10 days before I was born (don't strain your eyes, it says 10 April 1957).

Inside is a stand by stand review of the 1957 Photo-Fair at Olympia in London. Latest gear at the time included the Leica IIIg, Periflex III, the Rolleiflex 2.8E and the Weston Master III. Elsewhere in the mag the 'new' Ilford Sportsman is reviewed. There's also an interesting artical by George Wakefield (anyone remember him?) on how to reversal process black and white prints to make direct positives from transparancies.

The adverts are interesting. I thought this one was amusing too.

I'm still trying to guess what a 'balanced-pressure baseboard shutter release' is.

Good catch and I presume the fair was Beaconsfield. I normally try to frequent the Potters Bar event and hope to make the big one [Photographica 2010] later this month at Westminster all being well.

Balance Pressure.....?

Yes, Beaconsfield. I used to go to the one at Newbury but that's no longer run, so Beaconsfield is the nearest one now.

Somehow, the name of the company makes me laugh... somehow in my mind it falls within the same category as Acme :)

I just love those cheesy old adverts.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Peter...a great haul. I'd love to wade through them some time. Have fun!

Miller: I usually make Photographica every year (although I've missed the odd one or two), so if you're going & you fancy meeting up, please let me know and we can geek out together.

Dunno- but whatever it is, it didn't catch on.

I've heard that before  :D This time of course we should 'podcast it'...so you'd better be there. Of course, with all this bravado on my part I should check the date and make sure I can be there myself.   :-[ :-[
