I heard on the news this morning that a photographer had been chosen as the (forthcoming uk) election artist. They said it was Simon

Roberts.I'm assuming it is the 'We English ' Simon Roberts.I have to admit that I never knew that there was such thing as an election

artist.But if it is the same person then his camera's of choice have been an Ebony 45s and a Mamiya 7. Election results  and the

inevitable slash and burn to public services that will follow aside, I do like the possibility of a 21st century election being covered on

medium and large format film cameras  .

I just heard about this,  looking forward to the results...especially if its film based.

It brought a smile to my face this morning hearing it on Radio 2 at 9am. It is Simon Roberts of We English AND the news reader said he would be using film.

I think they also said that either he or the BBC are looking for the public to contribute pictures too.

Aaah, THAT Simon Roberts. Cool! Ailsa tipped me to him a couple of years ago and I bought his book, Rodina, on the strength of it. Wonderful stuff. He had a show near Brighton last year sometime that Ailsa went to & which I couldn't. I was gutted.

Fantastic to see he's staying 5x4 for this high profile assignment. Go film....and, er, go Simon Roberts (ra ra ra etc.)

BTW, check out Ailsa's interview w/ Simon in the Online Photographer. Good to see that she's given  some serious props in the comments section. Obviously people had wondered where she'd got to. I guess they should have listened to a few more Filmwasters podcasts. Tch!

Very pleased for Simon. He's a really nice bloke, and I'll be interested to see what he produces from the commission.
