Help! Odd processing error?
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:20:27 AM »
The negative below was shot in one of my Holga's and has ghosts of sprocket holes on it toward the bottom.    :(

Is this something that happened in the lab where I had the film processed?    ???   If so, how would it occur?
The film was fresh 120  Ilford HP-5.

I bumped the contrast to exaggerate the effect and didn't bother with dusting the scan.  :
Thanks for all input.   :) :) :)

that's mad!  I've no idea how it happened ... must have had a 35mm film against it at some point in it's processing.  Might even be a manufacturer problem? I dont know, but I feel your pain Becky :)

I was going to say the same thing: processed next to a roll of 35mm by a guy who was late at the gym and wanted to make up for it using the biggest tank the lab had. (hope the explanation eases your pain a bit   :-\ )

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Update:
I went to the lab today and talked to the guy that does the processing and he said that my negs were probably in contact with a roll of 35mm that somehow got stuck in the machine.

He apologized profusely and offered to process a few extra rolls for me gratis.

I asked how often this had happened and he said it never had.  I find this odd, but no less I think my best bet is to resist having a lab do my stuff and just do it all myself.  I've ruined my fair share of films, so I can't get too sideways about the whole experience.

Thanks for your input guys, you were right on the mark!  :)
