How do YOU frame your Polaroids? (Or PX 100 as well...)
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:17:51 PM »
Hi!
i just ordered 2 packs of this new PX 100 stuff, and while doing so, i wondered how one could frame a polaroid.
Till now, i did not frame a single one, they are all in a shoebox/folder - what is quite sad - at least for some of them.

So i dare to ask - what is your preferred method to hang a polaroid on the walls of a - still too white  - corridor?

What i do is: i buy relative cheap square IKEA frames, the passpartout is too wide, so i cut a smaller one with the size of the 600 or Tz Artistic or in this case the PX100.

I have a couple of polaroid 600 framed but I don't like hiding the polaroid boards so they're just placed on the top of a nice paper and then framed, the boards are so beautiful to be hidden !

I found these frames at a local Tiger store - kind of like a mini Danish Ikea without the furniture. The polaroids only *just* fit in behind the perfectly-sized mountboard and they're rather cheaply attached to the mounts by tiny bits of masking tape (I know, horribly not "archival" but it's only on the back anyway)

I guess I should rotate the art on my walls. It's confusing because my family never had pictures on the walls really and this is my first flat which had hanging hooks (and seems less bothered about us putting up more). It's annoying, though, they must have been hanging massively huge things or must have all been over the height of 6ft, the hooks are all placed pretty high.

While on the Polaroid theme, here is how I do it.
The frame came from the Dollar store (actually costs me 1.50$... they raised their prices recently... Grrr.).
I use some acid free double sided adhesive squares from Kodak. Since the back of the integral film is essentially plastic, I think acidity isn't really an issue.
I cut a piece of foam core about 1 inch smaller than the print. I just eyeball it making sure it's relatively square.
I tape it to the center of the print. This creates a nice drop shadow under the print. And since it's smaller on all sides, you never get to see it so neatness doesn't count here.
I then tape the foam core to the piece of nice paper using the same tape. This time, I used glossy white laser print paper.
And this is what it looks like...

This time, I put the print on the visual center of the frame (same distance on sides and top). I find it looks better that way.

Custom framing job done on lunch hour just for you guys ;)

Eh! what can I tell you. Classy is the only way to mount pictures... especially when it's so easy and cheap :)
