Polaroid is back in the game

Polaroid is resurfacing:

Good news and I'm happy they are partnering with the impossible project so the latter's efforts aren't wasted.

I haven't heard any details, but there's a longer article here:

If they'd REALLY like to cooperate, they'd help with the recipes for these films (all of them) instead of causing those trying to bring the films back to have to incur unnecessary time & expense reinventing  the wheel.

When Polaroid, not only stopped making film, but also dismissed those serious offers to buy their (now scrapped) equipment and license, and start re-manufacturing films (like type 55, 665, etc), I swore I would never buy another Polaroid product. I don't care what it is. (Unless it's film).

That they see that there is money to be made off of this venture, in spite of their callous disregard (& disposal) of their long-standing customers, and want to capitalize on it, to me, just makes them vultures.

Sorry, but they just piss me off.

tell me if I'm wrong here ... but I dont think the company here is the polaroid co that stopped making the films is it?  This is a company that only got the licence to produce certain polaroid branded products in June '09 (The Summit Global Group).  So they wouldn't have any idea about film making or formulae Deborah.  Now, why Polaroid wont sell the formulae or grant the licence for the integral film making is another matter entirely, and possibly does warrant some anger :)

In another post on the forum, I read that it's the OneStep that they plan on putting back into production... I still hope they re-design it so it looks more modern (maybe do away with the 45 degree mirror and go more the Instax route with a real autofocus and more controls)

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

The impossible Project, in partnership with Urban Outfitters has released a SE of the one step, which has apparently sold out. The proceeds (or the larger part of) went to The impossible Project as a way to raise funds.

What cameras beyond this is hard to say as they indicate in the article it will be both analogue and digital.  The summit group is collaborating with PLR IP Holdings who bought the intellectual property of Polaroid - which would include film formulas.

From the business week article it appears that products will be branded as Polaroid.

that was the one600 that urban outfitters was selling. i guess they will be selling a remake of the original one step as well as the one600. both kinda crappy cameras.
