Print protector spray
« on: August 14, 2009, 06:04:06 PM »
This month's Black and White Photography has an article about spraying ones prints with either Moab Desert Varnish or Lyson Print Guard.
Has anyone used these?
Do they work?  Reads as though they make colours look more saturated too?!

Please bear in mind I once mistook  WD40 for de-icer and sprayed my windscreen!  So aerosols are to be treated with caution!

For ice on the windscreen, we still prefer the good old fashion scraper for our Canadian Winters... as for WD40, I read it will strip the multicoating right off your lenses :)

Not used either myself, but I have been told hand-rubbed Renaissance Wax is effective too. I've tried it myself a number of times, and cannot get a good finish though.

Not really helpful I know, but another option perhaps. Good luck! Skj.

(I prefer CRC over WD40 though...)

I used to use the lyson print guard back when I did the dirty digi inkjet thing.  It worked well enough, but doesnt make the prints bullet proof, the surface is still quite fragile, but not as much as it would have been without it.  It didnt leave any kind of surface sheen or anything - that stayed as matt as it was before.  Mind you, that was all 7 years ago, so the formula or product might have changed a bit since then?

As for the colour ... what is this "Colour" thing you speak of?

I recommend locking away the spray print mounting adhesive during mosquito season (it was dark-  don't ask..)

Well, you know, I never thought of cutting small squares of pest strip to use them as print mounting adhesive  ;)

I know Krylon makes some good quality art quality sprays.
They make a UV resistant clear coat which might be worth looking at.
