PHOTOICON Magazine

Last night I emailed PHOTOICON magazine to find out when their next issue was due out as in issue 10 it said June and there was still nothing in the shops.

I received this reply..

Dear Hannah,
 
We deeply regret to inform you that due to the current financial crisis with slumping sales and a completely dead advertising market, we have been forced to temporarily stop our print production.
 
As soon as the financial climate stabilizes, hopefully by early next year, we will then again re-evaluate our opportunities to continue this operation.
For now all print productions have seized. We apologize but with today's slow economy it?s simply unjustifiable to proceed.
 
No one is more saddened by this unfortunate outcome than the staff and management of PHOTOICON Magazine.
We hope for your understanding, and remain at your disposal.

I'm gutted, I was really looking forward to issue 11 as it was dedicated to Polaroid. :(

I so worry for magazines like this.  My View Camera magazine has gotten later and later (I received April's at the end of May for example).  I don't know how they stay afloat, but hope and pray they don't go under!

View Camera is also much thinner than it used to be. But certain magazines seem to be going OK. I think that to survive some iof these magazine are going to have to start getting some non-endemic advertising.

These things happen more and more frequently... there is an art magazine published locally which is forced to go under after 30 years of publication. It was a small edition and low budget from the start but now it has been forced to pull the plug...

The only ones who seem to still be going strong is Shutterbug even though the articles are even thinner in content than before and the advertising even more present. I rarely buy it anymore.

I've been in touch with PHOTOICON as I'd just paid a new subscription. They are saying they're bankrupt and can't give refunds but are still trading. As far as I'm concerned, if they are still trading they can give me my money back.

Anyone else with a subscription? I'd like to hear from anyone who has as the more hassle we can give them the more likely we are to get refunds.
