Which Polaroid SLR Uses 500 Film?

I feel like an idiot asking this because I used to know it and now I've forgotten. Moreover I can't seem to ask the question of Dr Google in a way that gets an answer....

Anyway, I have a few packs of Polaroid 500 integral film left in the fridge. Somewhere in the house I also have a Joycam which uses 500 film. However, I see to recall that there is a relatively cheap Polaroid SLR (used to sell for about GBP10) which takes 500 film and I was going to pick one up on evilBay?but I can?t remember the model number. There were 2 I think; one with a glass lens and one with plastic.

Help!

Yes, I did check the Land List....but obviously not hard enough. Will go and take another look right now.

Ignore me...I found it eventually. It's the Captiva or Captiva SE (for the glass lens).

I think that's the one that stored the prints in a compartment on the bottom.

Sorry Ed, I've been a bit too busy to browse the forums otherwise I would have been able to answer you straight away, as I have one. In Australia they were marketed as the Polaroid 'Vision' camera and as Francois said, they store the taken image in a compartment at the back (with the last picture taken showing through a window, so in many way this was the analogue precursor to the LCD review screen on digital cameras)
If you find one for a reasonable price get it. I love mine and am always on the look out for more 500 film...

(sorry about the crappy example pic, it's late at night after a busy shift and the iMac's built in webcam is cruelly honest) :-)

Actually, the last film based precursor to the digital camera probably was the Kodak Advantix Preview camera. It was an Advantix film format with a special optical path (as far as I know) and a low resolution CCD. When you pressed the shutter, it showed you what the image should look like.

I should say I've never seen the camera except in TV ads...

I didn't see that Kodak camera myself either. One of the Polaroid Spectra cameras also had a LCD screen for image preview before a shot was taken...
I was more talking about an analogue precursor to the' image review' thing, rather than a digital one for preview... I really like the way (in the Captiva/Vision) the 500 film whirs out into the viewing/storage compartment and you can watch as it develops

I don't know if you remember the TV ads for the Captiva?
Everyone kept asking "where's the picture?" :) all surprised not to see it stick out the front like the 600...

They don't make ads like that anymore...

I actually used to own one of the plastic lensed Captivas a few years ago, but decided that I could take it apart and use the parts to cobble together a 5x4 camera. Made the mistake of using it a bit first so Jacqui fell in love with it and was thus doubly pissed off when the modification failed and we were left without the Captiva. Typical!
