Sorry to Hijack your thread Stu - but I've got to ask EdtheNed - Do all you Scotch ( ;) )people  actually start every sentence with "Och"? I've seen Trainspotting at least twice, so consider myself quite an expert on the northern folk, yet I cant recall any of the characters  saying "och".  Have I been mislead by the mass media yet again?

Actually, have no idea what Edwin is saying half the time but nod sagely now and again so that I am not seen as completely daft. Just as well you have not to cope with Gaelic Eh?

BTW, Seems like Emil's techniques!

Oh, it all adds to the gaiety of nations.  If not necessarily mutual comprehension  ;)

Back OT: a lot of those techniques seem like they might be interesting if used for a particular purpose, and although I get a bit tired of the lomo "here's something wacky (and expensive!) you can do!" at least it's encouraging film use.  Can't see anyone scrubbing their digi sensor with a toothbrush!

But ever so charming and manly though too, I'm sure you'll agree. Manc and Medway accents notwithstanding.

Apparently Lomography had one of the biggest stands at Photokina this year, and were claiming to have sales growing 50% per annum ...

Despite harbouring a deep anti-Lomo prejudice (as discussed at length here there and everywhere) I took a look at the original link and you know....I like the concept behind it. Good stuff.
 :o :D

The one that caught my eye involved rice and mold and spores on the negs (http://shop.lomography.com/labrats/risotto.html) and produced pretty cool effects like this:

I once read that a traditional Icelandic culinary delicacy involved burying sheep fat (or something) in the ground for several months until it had decomposed to the perfect level to be eaten. Yummy! This rice technique reminded me a little of that.

Don't forget the urine-soaked shark!  Hmm, that's a technique we could suggest to the LS ... lomicturation or something ...

I'm off to Reykjavik to get me some 'Piss Shark' - Yummy

I have heard of this delicacy before so I searched it to find out if anyone actually still eats it...
totally off subject but I found this link:

Love it!

About the lomo film cooking... not something I would do.

urine soaked? I thought it was just shark that is buried in the ground and .... ferments... Yeah wikipedia agrees with me on this... Alternatively, they have lovely expensive smoked lamb roasts in Iceland and Skyr (a sort of 'cheese' that is like very thick, rich yoghurt, it is very nice!!)

Then there's various Lye-treated fish products out there, stuff like Lutefisk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk

The problem with the rice & mould thing is, how do you stop it eating your whole negative over time? At least scratching it up is nearly archival. Inviting mould to eat your gelatin-based emulsion seems like not such a good idea.

The type of shark they use excretes urine through its skin, so when they bury it in the ground it essentially ferments in its own widdle.  Or so I've been told.

They did also use the human stuff as a preservative in olden times, but now tend to use yummy lactic acid instead when pickling their ram's testes!

But, I think we might be in funny territory for a photography message board now...

As for me, the most I'll go for is Surstr?mming... too bad they don't carry it at Ikea  ;D

But I do agree that the Lomo experiments could yield something interesting... just not the typical stuff we see coming from them...

Right at the end we have something sensible and back on track. Thanks Francois - says he who first started the whole shark's urine/food sub-thread.
