Rollei Pan25 test
« on: April 30, 2008, 10:41:47 AM »
I've just realised I promised to post some results from the Rollei PAN25 film very kindly donated by Ailsa some months back - thanks again Ailsa!

Well, I had a test roll in the camera for ages waiting for the right opportunity, and what with one thing or another that never came.  So instead I finished off the bulk of the roll on a foggy winter morning with no tripod,  not exactly ideal!  I ended up underexposing/loosing shadow detail a fair bit.  But there were a couple I liked. Not a speck of grain in sight! :)

Hi Al - What developer did you use?  I tested this film for B&WP and compared it with ilford delta 100 developed in a few different developers (rollie high speed, pyrocat HD and another that I cant remember now) and found it to be much grainer than the delta with less perceived sharpness too.  with the cost being so high for this film compared with the Ilford, I didnt find it to be a good choice .... although if it's a freebie, then than doesnt matter.  I know some people get some good results so the developer is definitely the key to getting it right I think.

I like the trees and road pic - very nice
L.

I used Ilfosol S at (I think) 1+9.  A more expert eye may have come to a different conclusion, I haven't used much 35mm b&w and most of that has been ISO400 so I'm easy to please! :)

Yeah, I guess it's a bit of a jump from ASA400 to ASA25...at least you noticed a discernible difference.

 :D

BTW, I'm right with you about waiting for the right opportunity for testing a particular film or camera. Super frustrating.

Talk about frustration: I've got a few rolls of color 800 film (processing included stuff) that is in my freezer... can't seem to figure out what to do that would put it to good use.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.
